Artist, Italian, 1801 - 1867

The image is a portrait showing the upper half of a man's body. He is positioned in a seated manner with his right arm resting on an unseen surface or armrest while holding a rolled-up document in his right hand. His head is turned slightly towards his left side, giving a three-quarter view of his face. The man has curly hair, short and well-defined, framing his face, strong eyebrows, and a prominent straight nose. He appears to be wearing a period-style outfit consisting of a voluminous, flowing garment with a high white collar and a decorative necktie or scarf. In the background, there is a textured, shaded area which enhances the contrast with the figure.
