A dark felt hat with a ribbon sits atop a wooden mannequin head, which emerges from an open box labeled with the year 1886. The image is in grayscale. The mannequin head and hat are centrally positioned within the open box. A section of fabric with a dotted pattern is draped to the left fore of the box. On the right edge, the spine of a book or box lid marked “GENTLEMEN'S HATS” is partially visible, slightly leaning against the box.
