The image shows a man standing in the doorway of a room. He is holding a palette and paintbrushes, with one hand on his hip, looking to his left. The man has a beard and mustache, short combed-back hair, and is wearing a loose coat and checked trousers. A large dog is lying at his feet. Nearby, there is an easel with an unfinished painting of horses and riders. The interior space also includes a chair with a cane back and a chandelier with unlit candles. Natural lighting and an open door leading to an outdoor area complete the scene.
