The rhythms and traditions of everyday life in Loíza, the Afro–Puerto Rican community where Daniel Lind-Ramos was raised, inspire his intricate assemblages. This towering figure made of found objects—a tambourine, buckets, maracas, horns, rope, boxing gloves, a sneaker, and more—is dressed in festive clothing reminiscent of the costumes worn by revelers during Loíza’s Fiesta de Santiago Apóstol. As we explore the details of this work, we realize power takes many forms: play, labor, music, protest, and spiritual devotion.
