This is an image of a historical map of California. It shows a coastline extending vertically along the left third of the composition. The horizon line is absent, as this is a plain view map focusing on the coastline. In the middle of the map, there are two figures holding a crest or emblem between them. The brushed line work is delicate with fine, precise detailing, especially in the depiction of the coastline and various missions highlighted across the map, marked with small icons of buildings. The color palette is mostly monochromatic, featuring shades of gray and black, giving the map a classic, aged appearance. Further inland, details of various missions and their names are inscribed, providing historical context. In the lower portion of the map, a sailing ship is illustrated on the Pacific Ocean, adding a maritime element to the piece. A compass rose is also drawn near the ship.
