Calavera of Francisco Madero, from Calavera Maderista

1944 (printed)

Printed with black lines on cream-white paper, a skeleton carrying a bottle and wearing a hat, striped scarf, pants, and sandals walks to our left in this vertical etching. Filling the composition, the skeleton has a walrus handlebar mustache and a goatee. His straw hat has a wide brim and a pointed crown. His scarf drapes over his right shoulder, farther from us. The skeleton holds the scarf in his right hand and an oversized black bottle with a cork in his left hand. The bottle has lettering on the label to read “AGUAR” and “DE PAR.” A few vertical lines around his sandals suggest grass.
