Artist, French, 1837 - 1911

Two figures are depicted in an outdoor setting. The first person is fully visible, sitting on the ground with their legs bent and arms resting on their knees, holding a bundle of sticks. This figure is older, with a bare head showing a receding hairline and a thick beard. They are wearing simple, rough-looking clothing with sleeves rolled up, and knee-length pants. The second figure is partially visible and is positioned leaning against a stone structure, wearing a hooded robe that obscures their facial features and holding a scythe. The background consists of tall, slender tree trunks and branches with some foliage visible, set in a softly rendered, sketch-like technique suggestive of a shaded woodland environment.
