Artist, British, 1761 - 1839

The image shows a view from within a grove of trees, with the viewer looking out through foliage towards the left. The horizon is positioned low, showcasing flat land in the distance with a faint suggestion of a structure or landmark on the left side. The trees are depicted with detailed brushstrokes creating texture and depth. The monochromatic palette of black ink on a cream background emphasizes contrast. Close to us, the roots and trunks of trees are captured with flowing lines, with animals, possibly cattle, seen in the distance. The sky is hinted at through unmarked space among the leaves.
