“Last night I developed 36 snaps. Some of them I hoped would turn out well.—Snaps are always much of a gamble [including some of] our own Irish cook with her more than Rubenesque figure—an abdomen as I had been waiting to photograph for ages.—The abdomen in this case was in a bathing suit” (Stieglitz to Herbert Seligmann, 2 October 1921 [YCAL]).
