This sepia-toned photograph shows a woman from the chest up, her body facing the left and her head turned to the right, in front of a dark, blurred background. The woman has pale skin, dark, smooth hair, high cheekbones, a long nose, and lips that appear to be in a slight smile. Her shoulders and chest are mostly bare, except for a dark cloth she is holding up with one hand at the very bottom of the photograph.

The image shows a man leaning his head on his hand, positioned with his face resting on his left hand. He has a mustache, thin-framed eyeglasses, and thick, greying hair that curls slightly at the edges. He is dressed in a formal jacket, a white shirt, and a black bow tie. The background is a soft, dark blur.

Scholarly Remarks and Key Set Data

Remarks

This photograph and Key Set numbers 1140 and 1141 were probably made during the same summer that Stieglitz photographed Frances O’Brien (Key Set numbers 1142, 1143, and 1144). Although Stieglitz variously inscribed these prints 1925 and 1926, his correspondence indicates that Eva Herrmann and Frances O’Brien visited Lake George in August 1926 (Stieglitz to Elizabeth Davidson, 7 August 1926, YCAL).
