Scholarly Remarks and Key Set Data

Remarks

The bronze portrait head of Mrs. Fiene was included in Gaston Lachaise’s exhibition at the Intimate Gallery from 9 March to 14 April 1927. A portrait photographer, Jeanette Ettarre Fiene, and her husband Ernest were friends of Lachaise and visited him often at his home in Georgetown, Maine.

Shortly after Lachaise’s exhibition closed at the Intimate Gallery, Stieglitz wrote to the sculptor, noting that he had developed “the snaps” of Mrs. Fiene (Stieglitz to Gaston Lachaise, 25 June 1927, AAA).
