Remarks
This photograph and Key Set numbers 1565–1574 look west toward Rockefeller Center. The International Building (far right) was completed in May 1935. Construction on the Time & Life Building, which would rise up to the left of the RCA Building (far left), did not begin until June 1936 (see Guide Book of Rockefeller Center, 1938). An inscription on a print of Key Set number 1571, in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, reads “For Georgia / Alfred / Lake George July 6—1935,” indicating that Stieglitz must have made this series in May or June, before he left for Lake George. The titles are based on those of similar prints included in Stieglitz’s 1934 exhibition at An American Place.
