The man wears a richly detailed garment with ornate embroidery and a ruff around his neck. He holds a staff or baton and there are pages of parchment nearby. The background features an oval frame with text, intricate scrollwork, and a small face above him. Below the portrait is a coat of arms with the inscription possibly indicating it is of Sir Walter Raleigh. The image is monochrome with fine lines and hatching.
