This is a detailed engraving of the title page of a book titled "The Golden Scepter." The central rectangular area features the title of the book, "THE GOLDEN SCEPTER. with The Churches Marriage; And THE CHURCHES CARRIAGE. In three Treatises, BY The late Learned Divine, John Preston." Surrounding the central text are various intricate engravings. In the top left corner, one scene shows a kneeling individual receiving a scepter from an enthroned figure, accompanied by the text, "Then was I in his eyes as one that found favor." To the right, another scene depicts a king and a woman with the text, "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine." Below, on the left, a group of figures is shown, with some appearing empathetic, and the words, "They have humbled themselves, therefore I will not destroy them." In the bottom right corner, an individual is depicted bending over a book, illuminated by a divine light, alongside the phrase, "When thou goest, it shall lead thee." The style is reminiscent of the detailed woodcut or metal engraving techniques from the 17th century, with intricate shading and texture created using hatching and cross-hatching.
