The image shows a bust engraving of a man. He is depicted from the chest upwards, facing slightly to the right with his gaze forward. The man has a slender face with a Roman nose, thin lips, and a small pointed chin. His hair is shoulder-length, straight, and neatly parted at the center. He is dressed in a dark gown with a white collar, featuring a decorative tassel. Surrounding him is an oval frame of interwoven laurel leaves, with a crest at the bottom. The background is finely lined, bringing out the detail of the portrait. Text beneath the portrait reads "W. Faithorne sculp:" and identifies the man as "Vera Effigies Roberti Bayfeild. Ætat: Sua: 27."
