Artist, German, 1500 - 1550

This print features a man depicted in a full-length pose. He is standing in a slightly crouched position, facing left and leaning forward against an arched stone doorway with his ankles crossed. His right hand is slightly outstretched and appears to hold a small round object, while his left hand holds a cross. A large book is held under his left arm. The man has a large forehead, a sharp nose, prominent cheekbones, and a bushy, flowing beard and mustache. He is attired in a loose, knee-length garment, revealing muscular arms and legs, and he is barefoot. There is a halo-like outline around his head. In the background beyond the arched doorway, buildings can be seen from above which feature towers, arches, and a tall spire. A small, lion-like animal is visible outside beneath one of the arches. Next to the man, there is an object resembling a plaque or stone with inscriptions on the ground. The print is monochromatic, with dark lines against a white background.
