Artwork history & notes
Provenance
Kunding Collection, Geneva; Falk Collection, Geneva; (Georges Moos, Geneva);[1] sold 1925 to (Etienne Bignou, Paris) in Berlin; sold 3 May 1927 to Chester Dale [1883-1962], New York; bequest 1963 to NGA.
[1]Osvaldo Patani's Amedeo Modigliani: Catalogo Generale, 1991 attributes another owner, Jacques Dubourg of Paris, before Etienne Bignou. However, this is the only source that states this provenance. Information in the photograph albums from the Bignou Gallery, now at the Documentation center of the Musée d'Orsay (copy, NGA curatorial files), include Kunding, Falk, Bignou and Dale in the provenance.
