Provenance

Commissioned 1931 by the sitter, Mrs. Chester Dale [née Maude Murray, d. 1953] and acquired March 1933 through (Galerie Georges Petit, Paris); [1] bequest 1963 to NGA.
[1] A letter to Lebon from Gindhart, dated 7 August 1992, states that the piece was bought by Galerie Georges Petit from the artist in March 1933.
