Provenance
Chester Dale [1883-1962], New York;[1] bequest 1964 to NGA.
[1] The Chester Dale papers at the Archives of American Art do not include a record for this painting. A scene by Dufeu entitled "Ville arabe au bord de la mer," with dimensions almost identical to the NGA picture, was sold at the Hôtel Drouot on 23 February 1945, no. 7, but that picture is recorded as having a signature, which the NGA picture does not.
