The image shows a portrait of a man with long, wavy hair past his shoulders. He has a serious expression, and wears a dark cloak with a light inner layer and a wide, white collar. His right hand is resting on his cloak near his chest. The portrait is encased within an oval frame with intricate designs. An inscription below the portrait names him as Thomas, Earl of Elgin and Lord Bruce, along with a coat of arms featuring a coronet and figures. The background inside the oval frame is finely cross-hatched, with additional embellishments in the surrounding rectangular space.
