Artist, French, 1732 - 1806

This is a drawing of a ship at sea in stormy conditions. The ship is being tossed by large waves under a cloudy sky. In the upper portion of the drawing, there is an outline of a mythical being or spirit among the clouds. The scene is primarily in shades of brown and black, with sweeping lines conveying movement and chaos. The central figure on the ship seems to be engaged in action, and there are other figures in the background.
