The drawing depicts a man's head and upper shoulders. He is in a three-quarter view, looking slightly to his right. The man has distinct facial features, with deep-set eyes and a full, long beard. His hair is curly and peeks out from underneath a wide-brimmed hat. He wears what appears to be a coat with defined collars. The background is plain, and there are no detailed setting depicted. Below the drawing, the script includes the words "Albany April 13th 1854" and the signature of C. L. Elliott.
