Reid [1863-1940], Auchterarder House, Auchterarder, Tayside, Scotland, by 1937;[1] (his sale, Christie, Manson & Woods, London, 27 March 1942, no. 80); bought by (Arthur Tooth and Sons, London, Paris and New York) for Mrs. Peter Pleydell-Bouverie, London, until at least 1954.[2] (Marlborough-Gerson Gallery, New York); sold 1963 to Mr. Paul Mellon, Upperville, Virginia; gift 1983 to NGA.
[1] The painting was published as being in Reid's collection in Ruth L. Benjamin, Eugène Boudin, New York, 1937.
[2] Arthur Tooth records, Volume XXI, London Branch stock inventory, p. 88, Getty Research Institute, accession no. 860679. The painting was lent to an exhibition of the Pleydell-Bouverie collection held at the Tate in 1954.
