Artist, American, 1895 - 1968

The image depicts a landscape with a viewpoint overlooking a gently sloping countryside. The horizon is in the upper third of the image, framed by distant hills in soft, fading tones. The style of the artwork features expressive brushstrokes or charcoal creating a dynamic texture, defining hills, trees, and fields. The color palette is monochromatic with black on a tan or sepia-colored background. Closest to us are clusters of trees with thick trunks and dense foliage, amidst open patches of land. Further in the distance, elements become less distinct and more blurred, enhancing the depth of the composition.
