Artist, American, born Russia (now Latvia), 1903 - 1970

This painting shows two large, dark red rectangular shapes against a vivid orange background. The rectangles are horizontal and take up most of the painting, with one on the top and one on the bottom. Between them is a horizontal line of orange that is slightly darker than the background color. These shapes all have rough edges. The thick brushstrokes are visible, especially in the red rectangles, creating slight variations in color.
