Artist, American, born Russia (now Latvia), 1903 - 1970

This image shows a sketch-like waterside scene from a slightly elevated perspective. The horizon is indicated by a line towards the upper third of the sketch, with a faint outline of hills or distant landforms beyond. Two elongated, horizontal lines represent boats in the water, one in the center-right and the other closest to us on the lower left. Loose, confident pencil strokes are used to suggest texture and form with minimal detail. The color palette is grayscale, using shades of pencil on paper for the composition. Sparse lines and shapes in the background suggest a fence or barrier, and a loosely sketched leafy branch ascends along the left edge.
