This is a drawing of a group of elephants in a circus tent. The composition includes several elephants standing in a line under a big top tent, indicated by the scalloped edges at the top right of the image. The elephants are closely positioned, their large forms taking up much of the image. They seem to be drawn with careful attention to texture and shading that highlights their wrinkled skin. The poles and chains in the foreground suggest elements of circus equipment, and there's an indication of a horse's profile on the left side of the image. The entire drawing is marked by a dramatic use of cross-hatching and shading, providing a sense of depth and atmosphere.
