A man is on the deck of a ship that angles sharply to the left in this vertical black and white photograph. We look up at the man, who holds a boxy camera in both hands and looks off to our right almost in profile. His short, dark hair ruffles in the wind, and he wears a light-colored scarf and a dark coat. The ship’s anchor is slung over the side of the hull close to us, and two masts lunge vertiginously up toward the top left corner of the photograph against a clear sky.
