The image features a canal scene with buildings along the left side, viewed from a water perspective. The horizon is depicted where the water meets the sky and building tops in the distance. Loose brushstrokes give the scene an airy quality. The buildings are painted in soft tones with terracotta roofs, one featuring a pointed spire. Light blues and creams dominate the color palette. Gondolas are shown on the water, with one near the left and another with figures on the right. The sky is painted in soft blues and whites, blending with the water below that reflects these hues.
