Artist, French, 1808 - 1879

This is a drawing of an older man walking with a dog in a windy landscape. The drawing depicts an older man with exaggerated, caricature-like features, wearing a tall hat and clutching an umbrella and his coat against a gusty wind. The landscape around him is gently sketched, with hills and a path on which he walks alongside a small dog. The title at the top reads "LA JOURNÉE DU CÉLIBATAIRE" (The Day of the Bachelor), and below states "11 HEURES DU MATIN" (11 in the morning). The drawing is done in a style typical of satirical illustrations from 19th-century France.
