The image shows a man seated, facing slightly to his right. His body is positioned behind a table or desk, and his hands are clasped together on the tabletop, resting on an open book. The man's face is aged, with a prominent, full beard and a receding hairline. His facial expression is serene. He wears a dark coat with a large, frilled white collar peeking out and a closely fitted cap on his head. The background is a textured, cross-hatched design. The focus is entirely on the man and the objects in front of him.
