Artist, Dutch, 1606 - 1669

The image shows a man seated and viewed from the waist up. He has a round face with prominent cheekbones, a mustache, and small, deep-set eyes. His head is covered by a wide-brimmed hat. He wears a dark coat and holds a paper or book, with his hand appearing engaged in writing or reviewing it. The setting appears to be indoors near a large window on the left side, showing an outdoor view. The background is dark with contrasting lighter tones of the window and the textural details of his clothing.
