This painting is a portrait of a man shown from the chest up, with his body partially turned to the right and his head facing us, the right side of his face in shadow. The man has pale skin, deep-set light blue eyes, a prominent gray beard and mustache, and thinning dark hair slightly combed back over a high forehead. His mouth is hidden behind his mustache, but it appears to be in a neutral expression. He is wearing a dark coat over a white shirt which is visible at the collar. The background is a muted, dark gray color with visible brushstrokes.

The painting is of an older woman from the waist up, her body slightly turned to the left and her head facing us. She has pale skin with soft lines, rosy cheeks, deep-set eyes, thin eyebrows, and thin red lips in a neutral expression. Her hair is short and wavy, colored in a soft grayish white. She is wearing a dark dress, contrasting with a light, frilly collar at the neck, where a round, dark pendant set in gold rests. The background is a dark, muted color. The brushstrokes in the painting are visible.
