The image is an etching depicting a rural landscape. The horizon is positioned towards the upper third of the composition, with a faint outline of distant hills. There are trees and structures on the horizon. In the middle distance, figures are engaged in what appears to be agricultural activity, possibly harvesting grapes. The artist uses loose, sketch-like brushstrokes to convey movement. The color palette is monochromatic, relying on the ink color. Closest to us, detailed figures emphasize the activity. In the distance, a small house or barn is partially obscured by trees.

André Dunoyer de Segonzac · 1929/1932 · etching ·  Accession ID  1948.3.208

The image shows a stately entrance with two tall columns topped with sculptural figures. The horizon is low, aligning with the base of the statues. The background stretches horizontally just above the ground level structures, creating a sense of spaciousness beyond the entrance. The brushwork and line technique in the etching suggest depth and shading, enhancing the textured detail of the trees and buildings. The color palette is monochromatic, using black ink on a pale cream background to emphasize the drawing's linear quality and intricate detailing. In the distance, trees add vertical emphasis, enclosing the scene and directing focus toward the architectural elements. Variations in line density capture the play of light and shadow, lending dimensionality to the elements.
