Densely spaced lines and splatters in black, white, pale salmon pink, teal, and steel gray crisscross a rectangular cream-colored canvas in this abstract horizontal painting. The lines move in every direction. Most are straight but some curve slightly. The density eases a bit near the edges. Two sets of ghostly white handprints are visible at the upper corners. The artist signed and dated the painting in black paint in the lower left corner: “Jackson Pollock ’50.”

A roughly textured, peachy form nearly fills this vertical, abstract painting. A tiny head facing our left in profile and two spindly arms, elbows facing in, suggest this is a person’s body, but the proportions are bulbous and exaggerated. Two stubby legs extend off the lower edge of the canvas. The face has a long, protruding nose, and the eye and slash of the mouth are drawn with slightly darker pink. The background is mottled with darker, terracotta-brown and nickel gray. The artist signed the painting in the lower left corner, “J. Dubuffet 50.”
