A bearded man with wrinkled, peachy skin and reddened cheeks sits and smokes a pipe on a wooden box in a landscape in this vertical painting. The man’s body faces us, and he peers at us with dark eyes under heavy, bushy white brows. Wrinkles line his forehead, the corners of his eyes, and his cheeks. He has a bulbous nose and a gray beard, and the long-stem pipe is pinched in his downturned mouth. His shaggy gray hair is covered by a cardinal-red cap. He wears a blousy daffodil-yellow shirt, which is loose around the neck, faded and patched blue pants, and scuffed brown boots. His legs are crossed with one knee over the other, and one fist rests in his lap. The other elbow is propped on a pyramid of three wooden barrels stacked on their sides to our left. A few bits of bricks or red stones are near the man’s feet, and a wooden houseboat with a low-pitched roof is in the near distance, to our right. The platform under the structure floats on a river, which is lined with trees to our right and mountains to our left. The sunset warms the face of the mountains and the trees to red and gold. Sage-green and peach clouds billow above the man, dividing the sky diagonally in front of bright blue sky beyond. The artist signed and dated the painting in the lower left corner, “G.C. Bingham 1850.”

This painting is a close-up view of a woman's head and shoulders. Her body faces the right, but her face is turned over her shoulder to look at us. She has pale skin, a thin nose, prominent purple eyes with long eyelashes, and glossy red lips that are parted to show straight white teeth. Her black hair is styled in voluminous, glossy curls. She does not wear any visible clothing. Just above her mouth, a bright red rose emerges from the right side of the image. The background is a solid blue.

This is a photograph of a gold coin. The image shows an intricately engraved gold coin featuring an eagle in flight at the center. Above the eagle are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TWENTY DOLLARS." Rays emanate from the bottom of the coin, adding movement. The eagle's feathers and the reflective quality of the gold enhance the coin's depth and luster.

This is a round gold coin or medallion. The coin depicts a woman in flowing robes holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, surrounded by rays of light. Her long hair flows behind her. One of her knees is bent, the foot resting on what seems to be a large rock, while her other foot is next to a small domed building. The coin is inscribed with the word "LIBERTY" at the top surrounded by a ring of stars. The date "MCMVII" is imprinted at the lower right.

Tall, billowing, lavender-purple and shell-pink clouds line the distant horizon over a vast plain of flat grassy land in this horizontal landscape painting. Closest to us to the lower left, a tree with a gnarled trunk and round, sage-green canopy sits mostly in shadow. A river curves from near the tree to cut across most of the landscape in a tight S-shape. One plump haystack, shaped like a giant teardrop, sits near a curve of the river in the vivid, lemon-lime field, to our left of center. One brown and one white cow graze across the river, to our right. Above tawny-brown hills lining the horizon, sunlight from our left turns the tops of the band of clouds pale pink, and the undersides are grayish-purple. The sky above is turquoise. The artist signed the lower right corner, “M J Heade.”
