American Art

A woman showing a man and a woman a painting at the National Gallery of Art.

Visitors enjoy artwork in the National Gallery's West Building.

No one tells America’s stories like its artists. Look closely at early American creativity, from stately portraits to breathtaking landscapes. Together, these works reveal a complex nation inventing and reinventing itself. During this conversation, we’ll consider American art—and the stories behind it—from different perspectives.

Sign-language interpreters and guides for visitors who are blind or have low vision are available for programs. Please call (202) 737-4215 or email [email protected] three weeks in advance for an appointment. Learn more about accessibility.
