The image shows a portrait of a man depicted from the waist up, facing slightly to the left with his body turned but his head looking directly at the viewer. He has a distinguished look with a high forehead and pronounced cheekbones. His hair is dark and wavy, reaching just above the collar, and he wears a small mustache and goatee. The man is dressed in a dark robe with a wide collar and a white shirt visible underneath, fastened with visible buttons. His left hand is visible, placed against his chest. The background consists of finely detailed horizontal lines. The text at the bottom identifies the subject as "IOHANNES COCCEIUS," along with additional writings below the portrait.
