The sculpture depicts a religious scene with a figure surrounded by other figures with halos. The upper part features a bust of a bearded man in robes, holding his hand in a gesture upwards. The sculpture is made of metal with a golden color finish and intricate carvings. The figures and decorative elements show a high level of detail in the drapery of the garments and facial expressions. The arch framing the scene is adorned with reliefs and inscriptions. The overall composition has a religious emphasis.

Provenance

Evidently Arcangelo Morroni, at unknown date in 16th century.[1] Acquired in Budapest or possibly Vienna by the 1920s by Dr. Antal [1879-1962] and Mrs. Clarissza Geber, Budapest; gift 1946 to their son, Anthony Geber, Chevy Chase, Maryland; by inheritance to his daughters, Dr. Antonia Geber, Chevy Chase, Maryland, Clair Catherine Geber, and Monica Anne Geber; gift 1998 to NGA.
[1] The reverse of the pax is inscribed with his name, evidently as the first owner.
