The brushstrokes show fine details of buildings and snow on the ground. The color palette is monochromatic, dominated by shades of gray and black. In the foreground, dogs play in the snow, and figures in winter attire move about. In the background, horse-drawn carriages line the snow-covered street as pedestrians navigate the scene. Small vignette-like illustrations to the left show various aspects of city life during winter.
