Artist, American, 1834 - 1903

The image shows a Venetian canal scene in an etching style. A large, arched stone doorway and building walls are depicted with intricate lines. The canal leads the eye towards a bridge in the distance. The color palette is monochromatic sepia. Water reflections and a gondola in the canal add detail to the scene. The composition uses light and shadow to highlight architectural details.
