Associated Names
James McNeill Whistler

Artist, American, 1834 - 1903

The image shows an architectural structure, possibly an entrance of a building, as seen from the outside. There is an open area with stairs leading up to a doorway. A person is seated at the bottom of the stairs with their feet in a water-like surface. Further up, two figures can be seen standing within a shadowy archway. The brushstrokes are delicate and sketch-like, with fine lines creating a textured effect. The color palette is monochromatic warm sepia. The walls around the doorway are rough and overgrown.
