Artist, German, c. 1619 - 1677

The image shows an elderly man seated with a full beard and balding head. He is wearing draped clothing that exposes part of his shoulder. He is seated towards the lower left of the image, facing to the right, with one arm raised. He holds a staff in one hand, with open books scattered around him. There are ethereal, winged figures with delicate features and flowing hair surrounding him. These figures are mostly torso, arms, and heads, with one playing a musical instrument. Above them float more winged cherubs among the clouds. The background is filled with clouds, creating a celestial atmosphere.
