Artist, American, 1834 - 1903

The image shows a scene with a lot of activity, seen from a slightly elevated perspective. There is an architectural structure with columns in the foreground. The style is sketch-like, with expressive line work portraying movement and life. Fine lines and hatching depict figures and carriages throughout the scene. Close to us, there are sketchy people and carriages with quick, fluid strokes. In the distance, more figures and a building can be seen. The horizon is hidden by the architectural element at the top. The color palette is sepia.
