James McNeill Whistler

Artist, American, 1834 - 1903

The image is a sketch of a person sitting upright on a surface with their entire body visible. The individual is seated with their legs extended diagonally and hands placed behind them for support. Their facial features are sketched with soft lines, showing a frontal view, and their hair is short and slightly tousled. There are no visible clothing items on the person. Around the individual, there appears to be a faintly sketched fabric to the right side on the surface they are sitting. The background is plain with faint line work suggesting walls or surrounding surfaces.
