Artist, Swiss, 1735 - 1783

The image shows a view from within a large structure made of wooden beams and brick, looking out onto a rustic scene. There is a misty gray sky in the distance and various materials like wood, stone, and foliage are depicted with realistic brushstrokes. The color palette is warm and earthy, and there are decorative carvings on a column close to us, with laundry hanging to dry. In the distance, there is a mill with cascading water and a figure by the water's edge.
