Map Projections: The Hot Dog

1976

Agnes Denes

Artist, American, born Hungary, 1931

A global map, including the continents and longitude and latitude lines, is formed into the shape of a columnar hot dog that curves slightly up at each end in this horizontal color lithograph. The globe-slash-hot dog is shown in red and dotted black lines, and the elongated continents are shaded green. The hot dog map is printed on a fine grid made with green lines against a pale green background. The print is inscribed in graphite along the lower margin under the image with “Map Projections – The Hot Dog Artist Proof” to the left and “Agnes Denes ‘76” to the right.
