The sculpture depicts two figures: one lying down and shrouded, the other standing and draped in flowing garments. The standing figure leans slightly forward with hands in front. Surrounding them are etched leaves and foliage. The material appears to be metal with a bronze-like color. Above, in the relief, there is an engraving of a distant landscape with two towers or spires atop a hill. Inscriptions are faintly visible above and along the bottom of the sculpture. The sculpture captures a narrative moment with detailed drapery and surrounding elements.

The plaque appears to be made of a metallic substance, possibly bronze, with a dark brown color. Engraved text to the right of the figures reads "Sadi Carnot, President de la République Française." The artwork is displayed on a flat rectangular surface, depicting a historical scene with dignity and classical elements from a frontal perspective.
