Concentric faded denim-blue and lemon-yellow rings forming a target alternate against a ruby-red background in this vertical etching. The innermost circle is blue and is followed by two yellow and two more blue rings. Streaks in darker tones of blue, yellow, and red are drawn mostly at the edges of the rings. A row of four orange blocks, each with the word "FACE" printed backward and in darker orange, lines the target along the top edge. The trim around the blocks and across the top quarter of the etching is streaked with tones of light tan and brown. The uppermost slat is separated from the words below by a thin blue line in which two darker brown sections suggest hinges. The printed image is surrounded by a wide white margin. Pencil inscriptions under the printed image reads “Trial Proof” to the left and "J J '79" to the right.
