Concentric grayish-blue and muted yellow rings forming a target alternate against a brick-red background in this vertical etching. The innermost circle is blue and is followed by two yellow and two more blue rings. The rings and background are covered with hatch marks, and darker strips of the colors are drawn near the edges of the rings. A row of four burnt-orange blocks, each with the word "FACE" printed backward and in darker orange, lines the target along the top edge. The trim around the blocks and across the top quarter of the etching is painted ash brown and then lined with a lighter tan to suggest wood grain. A slat across the top of the composition is separated from the words below by a thin black line and two brown sections that suggest hinges. The printed image is surrounded by a wide white margin. Pencil inscriptions under the printed image reads “Trial Proof” to the left and "J J '79" to the right.
